Check the Quality of Paper Products to Ensure Better Safety

Corrugated box is probably one of the most preferred modes of packaging for a variety of industries and products. Reason being it has strength and capability of resists to various factors such as moisture, dust and impact forces acting upon them during transit. The corrugated box consists of three layers of sheets having three or more layers. The thin layer consists of grooves and ridges that lies in the middle between two flat sheets. These are known as flutes that have enormous strength to a box. The boxes can bear a lot of strength from one direction. Edge Crush test (ECT) helps to determine the edge strength of corrugated boxes.

The Edge Crush Tester / Ring Crush Tester / Flat Crush Tester is used by lot of manufacturers because of its popularity and exactness. It is important to understand the strength applied on the boxes as it may collapse anytime. The test is started using a force applied from the extreme side of the box at 90° angle to the ridges. The test continues till the edges are crushed from side. The Ring Crush Test is used to test the corrugated box strength by cutting a sample of ring shaped from the box. The Flat Crush Test is performed using excessive force applied form extreme side of the box.

The box is stacked and shipped to long distances, so it is important to perform the test. The ECT test uses less material than its contemporary burst test. Therefore, it is rated as cheapest and less wasteful to buy ECT rated boxes in bulk.

ECT is an instrument that measures the durability of a corrugated board. Manufacturers get the information regarding strength resistance of the boxes that gives enough information whether the box can bear the wear and tear during the transit.

Cardboard and box manufacturers find it a very useful tool to perform quality control and for box manufacturers looking to test the protective ability of their raw material. The ECT rated boxes provide greater safety to transported goods and hence the level of protection is calculated during the entire distribution cycle.

Pacorr offers Edge Crush Tester to help manufacturers in measuring the crush strength of paper and packaging boxes. With the advanced model used in various industries, the packaging manufacturers can analyse and test the quality of boxes when subjected to any type of external pressure from the edges. The microprocessor-based instrument provides accurate readings on a digital display having sophisticated electronic controls for precision and easy operation. Separate fixtures are available for ring, crush, and flat crush test. The machine gives highly accurate test results under compression force having strong gripping clamps. Manufacturers use it in different industries to test the quality of boxes.
