Choose the Best Raw Materials for Plastic Products by Testing Melt Flow Rate

When it comes to most extensively used materials in today’s world, plastic is the first name that comes to mind. The Plastic products can be seen everywhere. It is almost inevitable to imagine a single industry that can function efficiently without the use of plastic parts and products. From aircraft to automotive to medical instruments, plastics can be found in every walk of life. The major factors that make plastic a preferable choice for industries is its versatility, easy availability, ability to perform under extreme condition and low cost. Although the low cost is a upside of using plastic, it is important to understand that the quality of products cannot be compromised because of low cost.

As the plastic products are used in some of the most critical application, it is essential that only products with proper strength and quality are delivered to the industries. The manufacturers need to ensure that the conduct each and every quality testing procedure on the products before they are delivered to the customers. There are many properties of plastics that need to be tested to ensure the best quality of end products. At each step of manufacturing, the product needs to be tested to determine whether the manufacturing process has been conducted properly or not. The first step of ensuring quality is ensuring that the raw materials that are being used for making the product are of best quality.

The raw material that is used for making plastic products is the resins or granules which are melted to form the end products. It is essential to ensure that the plastic granules have the desired chemical composition as well as the physical attributes required for the end product. The Melt Flow Index is a major indicator of various properties of plastic resins.

The melt flow index of any plastic resin or granule is determined with the help of melt flow index tester or melt flow rate tester. The instrument uses molten granules that are passed through a tube under a shear stress for ten minutes. After Ten minutes, the amount of molten resin passed through the tube is weighed which gives the melt flow index of the resin being tested. The higher flow of rate indicates lower intermolecular bonds and lower strength of the granules. Higher the MFR, higher the strength of the plastic. Additionally, it also tells various chemical properties of the resin as well which helps the manufacturers in making different changes in the manufacturers to get the best end results.

With the help of melt flow index tester, the manufacturers can easily ensure that they are using the best quality raw materials for plastic products and ensure that they are delivering the best quality of products to the clients.
