Determine Ash Percentage of Materials

Muffle Furnace is used for high-temperature applications such as for melting glass, creating enamel coatings and technical ceramics and brazing. It is used in laboratories to determine the ash percentage of materials such as plastic and rubber. The furnace is used in research to determine the proportion of a sample product whether it is non-combustible and non-volatile.

Too much ash content may lead to accurate test results and uncertain behaviour of the material. The muffle furnace has been appreciated by several industries. The testing instrument determines the quality of the product by knowing the nature of behaviour for different environments using chemical properties.

The specific function of the muffle furnace is thermal processing, building materials, cement, or treatment of small workpieces. The pharmaceutical industry uses it for drug inspection, pre-treatment of medical samples and so forth. Chemical Industry uses for water quality analysis, environmental analysis, and so forth. It can also be used for petroleum and its analysis.

Precautions for Muffle Furnace

  • The furnace when heated makes the furnace jacket hot. Keep the furnace away from combustible materials and keep the furnace easy to dissipate heat.
  • The refractory material of the new furnace contains moisture. To generate an oxide layer on the heating element, it must be baked at low temperature for several hours at least for 900°C before use.
  • The working life of the testing instrument depends on the oxide layer on its surface. Destroying the oxide layer reduces the life span of the heating element. And each shutdown damages the oxide layer.
  • The temperature of the furnace should not exceed the maximum temperature during use, so as not to burn the heating elements, and it is prohibited to pour various liquids and molten metals into the furnace.
  • While conducting the ash test, the sample must be fully carbonized on the furnace and then put in the ashing furnace to prevent carbon accumulation from damaging the heating element.
  • Muffle furnaces are used for experimental tests. Therefore, the sample must be contamination-free, so that the furnace does not get contaminated.

The equipment guarantees the best quality of the products. It is important to determine the chemical composition along with the physical properties. A muffle furnace is used for turning the materials in complete ash with ease.
