Give your Product Packaging the Best Look with Testing the Coefficient of Friction

Friction is the force that is developed between two different surfaces that are rubbed against each other while having a relative motion against each other. This can limit the motion of the objects that are being rubbed against each other. If the friction is too great then it can cause the deterioration of the surfaces to great extent. The coefficient of friction (COF) is an important factor to consider in industries when choosing packaging for any products. The packaging of any products has several different roles to play for a product at several different stages. Any product, when transported or stored, needs protection from different elements such as moisture, contaminants and dust. This is why the packaging has to be strong enough to ensure that the products will stay safe from these external elements. In addition to that, the packaging also has to contain the branding and other important information about the product being packaged inside.

When packaging is chosen for a product, its coefficient of friction needs to be tested with accuracy and precision to ensure that the value of COF is just right. This is because if the value of the COF is higher than required, then it will not only make it harder to move the package but will also cause extensive damage to the packaging itself as well as the branding and the information mentioned on the package. Additionally, if the COF is lower than required, it cause the packages move off the stacks during transit easily and cause them to drop and damage the product. This is why, the manufacturers of the packaging and the manufacturers of the products need to test the coefficient of fiction to ensure that the packaging has just the right value of COF to perform at its best.

The coefficient of friction is tested with the help of an instrument called coefficient of friction tester. The instrument is used for induce artificial conditions where the packaging materials are subjected to extreme friction to evaluate the damage incurred by the friction. This gives an idea of how the packaging material will behave under a specific condition and helps the manufacturers in deciding the best option for their products that will keep their branding as well the packaging intact when faced with extreme conditions.

Testing the packaging materials such as printed boxes, plastic labels and self-adhesive tapes can help the manufacturers in attaining the best branding and customer’s trust by giving them the best quality products.
