Peel Strength of a Peel-off Lid can ensure the Safety of Packaged Food

With modernization and beautification of everything is in demand then how our most profit earning industry i.e. the Packaging can lay behind. From tins to flexible packaging, we have come a long way in the designing of user-friendly and beautiful packaging. The advancement in packaging with time not added only aesthetical importance but also comfort to the user and resolved safety concerns associated with the product inside. Especially, in the food industry, where the safety of food products is critical for the producer and the consumer both (Peel / Seal / Bond and Adhesion Strength Tester).

So to ensure that this doesn’t concern any of the end-user, the food packaging industry came up with a packaging concept which fulfils both the aspects, the safety and easy access - Peel-Off lids.

Peel-Off lids are nowadays used in a wide range of food products, be it yoghurt, drinking water, chocolate cream, ice cream and many more. These lids are designed and placed in such a way that before peeling these lids off, the product inside is securely protected from the outside environment and any kind of contamination but at the same time, it ensures that the user can easily peel it off before consuming the product.

How poor peel strength quality can threaten the safety of food products inside?

Peel strength is the amount of force applied to peel a lid off the container. The force applied to do so must be calculative. It must never exceed or lay behind the value set by engineers. If the peeling force is too much then the user may find it difficult to open and exert much pressure. The user may deny using the product or by applying more force the lid may open abruptly falling off the product inside. In both cases, the product will ultimately fail to please the consumer.

In case the lid’s peel strength is lower than required, the inside product can fall off easily during storage, transportation or handling. Also, low peel strength may result in too low a seal bond and allow contamination inside damaging the food quality.

How to measure the Peel Strength of a Peel-Off Lid?

Peel tests help the manufacturer to evaluate the adhesive strength between the peel-off lid and the base of the lid.

Peel Strength Tester is one of the leading testing equipment used by many manufacturers for examining the peel strength of peel-off lids. The equipment comes with two saw-edged and vice-type testing jaws for holding the sample during the ongoing procedure. One of these two clamps is flexible to move. One must place the sample to be tested between the jaws and the clamp which can move will hold the lid and will be directed in the opposite direction of the other clamp. This will generate the peel-off strength on the sample lid. The machine is equipped with a highly precise load cell that records the amount of pulling force applied to peel off the lid and the evaluated value will be displayed on the digital screen. In addition to this, the equipment comes with a strong & rigid base platform and is constructed using high-quality steel for a long-life quality services life.

A peel test indicates crucial issues that may be experienced due to poor peel strength quality and can therefore be used to optimize the product quality. A prior test conducted using a piece of precise and standardized equipment ensures good production and increases profit.
