The Right Method of Using a Salt Spray Chamber

Corrosion testing is the primary testing module for the coating industry. The main function of the coating is to protect the coated material from external environmental conditions like sunlight, moisture, water, UV lights etc. The most important element of this is moisture, leading to a chemical reaction known as corrosion. It is important because the corrosive environment damages the surface the most. Hence, it is important to perform corrosion testing in these industries and use the Salt Spray Chamber, the right way. Investing in a good machine and not perfectly performing the test also leads to loss and reduced quality in product manufacturing.

The correct steps to follow with the Corrosion Test Chamber
The Salt Spray Fog Test Corrosion Chamber when used correctly and following the right steps can be useful in controlling the quality aspect of the Coated Products.

Step 1 - Cleaning the sample that will be used for testing must be thoroughly cleaned before the test. Any dust particle, oil or grease can interfere with the test and disturb the test results. The cleaning process to be followed must be as per the sample material properties.

Step 2 - Decide the testing standard before initiating the test. The commonly used test standards worldwide for Salt Spray Chamber are - ASTM B117, ISO 9227, and JIS Z 2371. The test standard decision is vital as it will further help you in deciding the salt solution, chamber temperature during the test and other test parameters.

Step 3 - Prepare the parameters of the test:

a) Make the salt solution as per the test standard selected. Usually, it is a 5% NaCl solution in distilled water but ideally, the ratio in your selected standards must be used.

b) Set the chamber inside temperature before the test starts. This again must be as per the test standard selected and usually the temperature in Corrosion Test Chamber is set at 35 or 50 Degree Celsius.

Step 4 - Sample placement is again very important in the test and can ensure the test's accuracy. The right way of placing the samples are that they must not touch each other or the chamber surface. This way it will allow a free flow of salt fog and ensure better test results.

Step 5 - Now, when all other steps done, we can set the duration of the test. The duration set in the salt spray chamber can vary depending on the material tested, test standard, and the analyses to be done.
