Analyze the Quality of Corrugated Boxes by Evaluating As Per Standard

The corrugated boxes are used to pack and deliver fragile products such as electronics, glass, furniture, the corrugated boxes are the default choice for secondary packaging. The corrugated packing box provides protection as well as strength and is widely used as secondary packaging across the world. The durability and cushioning provided by the corrugated box make it suitable to survive the whole distribution chain, from producer to end consumer. The quality of the corrugated board is determined by the paper quality, the gram weight, and the flute. And the quality of the box is determined by various tests, whereby specific testing equipment is used, that comply with many standards. Let's discuss some of the tests which are majorly used to calculate the quality of the corrugated box (Packaging Testing Instruments) .

Compression tests evaluate the material behavior under a load. The maximum stress a material can sustain over a period under a load is determined. Compression testing is usually done to break up to a limit. When the test is performed to a break, break detection can be defined depending on the type of material being tested. When the test is performed to a limit, either a load limit or deflection limit is used.

Common methods for testing compression of a box is:

  • The deflection caused due to rupture
  • Load took by the box at rupture
  • The maximum load a box can afford
  • Stiffness
  • Stress has taken by the box
  • Offset yield

Advantages of Box Compression Tester

Compression forces are experienced at the time of transit, storage and distribution are the toughest challenges faced by goods and packages. To determine the ability to calibrate a material that can bear the compression forces, many industries are using various testing instruments to test the quality of corrugated boxes.

The Box Compression Tester is produced for testing compressive strength on corrugated boxes and cartons as per standard. Compressive strength is the capacity of a material to bear loads tending to reduce size. For finished packages, a compression test can be used to measure compressive resistance, deformation and stacking capability.

Principle

The sample corrugated box or packaging must be placed in the middle of the lower plate of the compression tester. When the test commences, the upper plate will move downward and a load will start applying to the sample box. This force is recorded utilizing the three load cells located under the lower plate. When the system detects the sample breaking, the upper plate returns to the initial position at the maximum speed.
