Benefits of Performing Vibration Test on Packaging Boxes

Corrugated packaging boxes are widely used in all production verticals, warehouses, shops, to pack different types of products. Right from plastic goods to fragile goods, these cartons are used to pack almost every kind of product as they are considered as safe and strongest means of packaging. These boxes resist compression, jerks, and other external forces, etc (Vibration Test on Packaging).

But, before using these boxes for the packaging, manufacturers double-check the quality of the boxes to ensure these are safe to use and will provide 100% protection to the products that are packed inside.

To test the quality of the corrugated boxes, it is important to test the resistance strength of the corrugated boxes against vibrations, jerks, and mishandling during transportation and warehousing. The main purpose of conducting a vibration test is to examine the road worthiness of the packages. It helps the operators to check that the carton will ensure that the products that are kept inside are safe even after going through continuous vibrations and jerks.

For example, if a sample is assumed to experience 40 rounds of vibrations during manufacturing, it means it will survive even after 60 rounds of vibrations. The box can be checked and seen if it fulfills the requirement.

How does the vibration testing instrument work?

The testing machine is equipped with a railing all around the test area so that the sample should not slip away from the machine at the time of testing. It is very common for boxes to fall off the testing area while the machine is vibrating continuously at full force. This happens because the jerks that happen during the test make the sample slip towards the corners. The slipping away of the sample from the testing machine will not only disturb the test result but will also damage the sample itself. The frequency required to generate the vibrations/jerks is adjusted as per the requirement of the application.

If we talk about the glass products that are fragile in nature, that may be transported in different vehicles that ensures extra care and will not produce jerks. In that case, the sample is to be examined by setting the low frequency.

The base plate installed on the machine where the sample is placed is strong and rugged in nature so that it can easily hold and secure any size of container. The time duration taken by the entire test sample or the round of vibrations before the failure occurs in a package will be recorded precisely and accurately on the digital panel of the test machine. The frequency and the round of vibration can be set easily using soft touch feather controls that are easy to understand and use.

The Vibration tester is the best testing machine that generates exact jerks and jolts that a packaging product faces in actual transportation conditions.  The machine is designed keeping in mind the national and international standard test methods such as  IS 7028(part II), ASTM D999, and TAPPI T-17
