What Is FRP?
FRP is a composite material made by reinforcing a polymer resin with strong fibres. It combines structural strength with excellent resistance to moisture, salt and many chemicals. Unlike ordinary metal, FRP does not develop rust when repeatedly exposed to salt fog.
However, the quality of FRP depends on the resin, fibre reinforcement, thickness and manufacturing process. Buyers should therefore examine the overall construction rather than relying only on the term “FRP chamber.”

The most important benefit of FRP is its ability to withstand a saline environment. It protects the chamber body from corrosion during continuous and long-duration testing.

A well-manufactured FRP chamber does not require frequent painting or anti-rust treatment. Its smooth internal surface is also easier to clean after testing, helping reduce maintenance time.
Good Structural Strength
FRP provides sufficient mechanical strength while remaining lighter than many metal structures. This makes installation, handling and servicing more convenient without compromising the chamber’s durability.
Better Protection Against Contamination
Rust particles from a metal cabinet may affect the cleanliness of the testing area. An FRP interior prevents the chamber body from becoming an additional source of corrosion deposits.
FRP Construction Alone Is Not Enough
The accuracy of a salt spray test depends on more than the chamber material. Before selecting an instrument, check the quality of its:
- Fog atomization system
- Temperature controller
- Air-saturation arrangement
- Fog collection system
- Specimen holders
- Lid and sealing mechanism
- Drainage and exhaust arrangements
The chamber should maintain uniform salt fog and stable test conditions according to the applicable method. Standards such as ASTM B117 and ISO 9227 describe controlled salt spray procedures for assessing corrosion protection and coating consistency.
