When the melt flow index test is conducted, the resin is placed in the instrument to heat it. This causes the resins to flow through the orifice that has a specific diameter according to the standard used for testing. The molten resin flows through the orifice for ten minutes and then this amount of resin is weight on a digital balance. The weight of that molten resins is termed as melt flow rate of the test sample.
