Ensure Corrosion Resistance of Coatings as Per Standards

Paints and coating are one of the most commonly used methods to protect the metallic surfaces from any sort of corrosion and degradation. Coating industry keeps updating its methods to provide more corrosion resistant paint and coatings. Working only on innovating coating methods or creating improved enamels should not be the only motive. Manufacturers need to notice quality control methods. The most important problem primarily focus on customers facing corrosion resistance of the coating product.

Salt Spray Tester/ Corrosion Test ChamberMany questions arise related to coating resistance with respect to testing standards and what type of equipment is used for this. The amount of accuracy that can be taken from test results. To answer such queries, it is important to answer the ideal corrosion test machine for coating. ASTM B117 is the most commonly used test standard for coating corrosion test. The machine is used to perform the test process is known as Salt Spray Chamber. There is various equipment in the market that adheres to ASTM and many other test standards to offer accurate results.

The test chamber must test each and every inch of design as per the test standards. The test begins from the Canopy angle to the outer body construction. The canopy angle of the chamber is constructed in such a way that the salt vapours that are released when sticking to the wall of the canopy never falls back on the sample from the top.

Rather it should roll down side wise to the chamber. The outer body offers a high amount of insulation to prevent any sort of temperature or heat loss at the time of the test, as this can disturb the inside environment. The fog collection centre is located outside the chamber to limit the number of opening the system and disturb the corroded conditions.

Salt Spray Chamber by Pacorr chamber adheres to various international salt fog test standards like ASTM B117 and JIS Z 2371. Prepare the ferrous metal sample and the sample can be either placed on the sample rack or it can be hanged. The operator can place it any way they require as per their industry standard. Pour the salt solution with 5% of NACl in the cabinet tank. Close the lid tightly. Switch on the operational and set test parameters like test cycles, temperature, pressure etc. Post setting the conditions you can start the test. Now the graphical representation of test can be viewed on the screen. The test results can be downloaded post the test.
