Protect your Packaging’s Look and Feel with Proper Friction Testing

Coefficient of friction (COF) is a quantity that determines the amount of friction that is offered by a surface when it is in relative motion with another surface. Basically it is the maximum amount of that is required to move an object from its stationary motion. Lower coefficient of friction means ease of movement whereas higher coefficient of friction means difficulty in movement of products. It is an important quantity in the field of packaging industries. IN packaging industry, if the packaging materials offer a huge amount of COF, they produce difficulty in movement as well as they can be easily defaced and damaged because of friction. On the other hand, if the friction is too low, it can cause the packages to slide on their own and drop from the stacks. This is why the packaging materials need to have just the right level of COF so that they stay safe during the storage and transportation process.

The coefficient of friction is a highly precise testing instrument that simulates the actual friction conditions and hence helps in analysing the impact of a certain amount of friction on the packaging materials that are being used in industries. With the help of this instrument, the manufacturers of packaging materials can stay assured that the packaging boxes will be safe from any friction damage and all the important information along with branding as well as look and feel of the package will stay intact during transportation and handling.
