Make Self Adhesive Tapes More Effective and Efficient

Self-adhesive tapes are widely used in different areas for fastening the packaging containers. When it comes to packaging of any product, it is important that packaging of the products is secured and is capable of protecting the products from external impacts and effects. If the packaging is not efficient enough, the products can be vulnerable to the damages and impacts from external impacts. The manufacturers of such materials need to take extra care while testing the efficiency of packaging materials such as self-adhesive tapes.

Peel Strength Test

The adhesive strength of packaging tapes needs to be tested so that it could be ensured that during transportation, the tapes will stay in its place and will protect the products from external factors such as dust, moisture and so forth. To analyse the peel strength of packaging tapes, a testing procedure called peel strength test is used. A testing instrument called peel strength tester is used for conducting the test procedure which gives the accurate analysis of the adhesive strength of the specimen. In general peel strength of an adhesive tape is the maximum amount of force that an adhesive can bear without getting peeled off from the substrate to which it is applied. The peel strength is the biggest indicator of the efficiency of any adhesive.

Testing procedure

The testing procedure is conducted with the help of a testing instrument called peel strength tester. The peel strength tester is widely used in adhesive and packaging industries. To conduct the testing procedure, the test specimen of the adhesive tape is applied to a substrate. Once the specimen is placed on the substrate, the specimen is placed in one clamp and the substrate is placed in another clamp. The clamps are serrated and hence ensure that the specimen will not slip from the clamps and gives most accurate testing results. Once the specimen is in place, the machine is switched on and the clamps start moving apart. This exerts a tensile strength on the specimen and causes it to be peeled off from the substrate. The amount of force that is exerted on the specimen is recorded by the load cell and is displayed on the digital screen given with the instrument.

With the test results obtained from the testing procedure give the adhesive strength of the self-adhesive packaging tapes and helps the manufacturers in ensuring that they will be capable of providing the best protection to the products for which they are being used.
