How to Perform Box Compression Test in 7 Easy Steps?

Compression strength test is performed in packaging manufacturing industries to test the corrugated boxes to measure the resistance of the compression from any external forces. The testing instrument applies the load on the upper area of a corrugated box to determine the strength of the corrugated cardboard boxes.

Compression test is done by using a BCT machine that compresses corrugated boxes vertically.

How does the testing machine perform the test?

During the test, the load is applied on both the sides as the sample is placed between two parallel plates. The test is performed to measure the compression strength of the boxes. If you are a manufacturer of a corrugated box manufacturing industry, you might be aware of the fact that single /double ply cartons are one of the widely used sources of packaging. These packaging boxes are used for safe packaging and used to transit the products from one place to another in a good condition.

The corrugated boxes need to be strong enough to ensure that the product safety is important during transportation and warehousing. The packaging boxes need to be strong so that it can guarantee the safety of the products during transportation and storage. If you too are looking to buy a high quality box compression tester, you have landed the right page. Pacorr Testing Instruments brings you the top class compression testers. Not only this, you can find an array of packaging testing machines that helps you examine the properties of the packaging materials.

Continuing the discussion, here in this blog, we are going to discuss how you can effectively do a box compression test. Let’s get started.

Right steps to perform the compression test

Pacorr’s BCT can be customized using different platforms that allow the users to perform different tests on different test samples. The testing machine is best for providing accurate analysis of the compressive strength of the packaging containers. It also helps in manufacturing stronger packaging containers/corrugated boxes. If you too want to perform the compression test on these corrugated boxes, then you need to follow a few simple steps to get precise test results.

  1. First of all, secure all the sides of the corrugated box properly using tapes to close all the sides appropriately.
  2. Safely plug the testing machine into 220 Volts AC, 15 Amp. switchboard
  3. Place the sample in the center of the compression plates
  4. Start the machine and bring the compression plates near to the sample. Use the rotary switch & bring the plates downward.
  5. Apply a load of 2kgf to remove any gap from between the sample and the compression plate
  6. After applying the load, press RESET & TARE to set the value at the peak load indicator to zero.
  7. Initiate the test by adding maximum weight to the sample for pass/fail analysis.

The above mentioned 7 easy steps will help you ensure that you will get accurate test results. The instrument will also let you know that the sample is appropriate for the application or not.
