A Must-Have Equipment for Plastic Manufacturers

Laboratory testing instruments help the manufacturers create the actual working conditions inside the laboratory to test the quality of different products. Pacorr Testing Instruments is the renowned name in the niche industry that helps the manufacturers to test the quality of the products that they manufacture in their premises. From plastic testing to textile testing, Pacorr offers a wide range of machines to the customers. These equipment are used to test a wide range of products.

We at Pacorr, have a group of highly experienced professionals that always look to add value to our customers by helping them with the best solutions . We strive to manufacture only the best quality equipment so that we can deliver precise results to our clients in a result-driven manner.

Out of the many testing devices that we have introduced, one of the amazing machines is the IZOD/Charpy Impact tester. Continuing the discussion, in this blog we will talk about the IZOD Impact tester, its benefits and working procedure. Let’s dig in.

When we think about physical testing of a material, dimensional analysis, tensile strength, material density are the few things that come to our mind. By measuring these characteristics and properties, we get to know a lot about a material and understand why a failure or manufacturing defect occurred.

What is impact testing?

It is a kind of physical test on the surface of the material. It can be performed better with the help of a testing machine known as IZOD Impact Tester. The testing instrument comprises a pendulum system and a hammer that is utilized to apply a force on a material in order to measure the impact resistance strength of a material.

Benefits of Determining Impact Energies

Measuring the impact strength of a material is one of the crucial steps that help to do the compliance test, specification analysis and quality assurance. This process can also be used to compare pass and fail results to improve the quality of the raw material before using it for production purposes.

Where to use an IZOD/Charpy Impact Tester?

Pacorr’s Impact tester measures the impact resistance energies of multiple products. It can be used to test rigid or semi-rigid thermoplastics, filled polymers.

How does the Impact Tester work?

The testing instrument applies the forces using the pendulum hammer to a notched sample. You can create the notches in the sample using the standardized equipment that are provided in-house and conforms to ASTM standards such as D6110, D256, D4812.

The tester can be used to perform IZOD & Charpy tests. The major difference between Izod & Charpy test is:

During the charpy test a long bar is set horizontally. The pendulum hammer directly strikes the test specimen at its center. The Izod test (ASTM D256) is performed on a notched sample. The charpy test (ASTM D4812) is essentially the same test but it does not require any notch in the sample.

Why perform the Impact Test?

There are many reasons to test a polymer material using the Izod/Charpy Impact method. Impact energy is used to test the age, chemical contamination or environmental exposure. Also, the physical properties such as durability, strength, impact resistance, and toughness. Adding one more testing option to your testing list allows you to continue to offer world-class testing.
