Enhance Quality of Plastic Bottles Through Wall Thickness Measurement

PET and Plastic bottles are widely used for packaging of beverages and other liquids that put a huge amount of pressure on the bottles. IT is important to ensure that the bottles that are used for packaging of the beverages are of ultimate strength so that they are able to bear the impacts during transition and storage. Additionally, they also need to be capable of bearing the internal pressure exerted on them because of pressurized beverages. When it comes to strength of the bottles, the wall thickness has a very important role in deciding the strength of the bottles. This is why, the manufacturer need to ensure that during the manufacturing process the material distribution throughout the shape of the bottle is done evenly. This ensures the best strength of bottles and also enhances the overall quality of the bottles as well.

To ensure the best strength of the wall and even distribution of materials during the manufacturing process, the manufacturers need to measure the thickness of the walls of the bottles to ensure that the thickness is uniform all over the bottles. During the blow melding process when the p[reforms are turned in to PET bottles, there are many factors that can alter the wall thickness of the bottles such as temperature, pressure and so forth. Even a slightest change in temperature or pressure can alter the quality and strength of the bottles vastly. This is why the manufacturers need to keep a check on the temperature and pressure during the manufacturing process of bottles and also need to test the wall thickness of the bottles thoroughly and accurately to ensure the best quality of bottles.

Now the biggest problem with measuring the wall thickness of PET bottles is that it cannot be measured through conventional methods such as vernier calliper or rulers. To measure the wall thickness of the plastic bottles, the instrument called wall thickness gauge is used which is perfect instrument to measure the thickness of products with irregular shapes. The instrument works on the principle of eddy current and gives accurate measurement of the bottle walls that cannot be measure otherwise. Not only PET and plastic but the instrument can be used for testing the wall thickness of aluminium and glass bottles as well. With the help of this instrument, the manufacturers can easily ensure the best quality and strength of the bottles with uniform shape and thickness of the bottles ensuring better safety of products that are being packaged in the bottles.
