The Salt Spray Chamber uses compressed air and a prepared sodium chloride solution to generate a fine, controlled salt fog. Before atomisation, compressed air passes through the air saturator and then reaches the nozzle, where the solution is converted into mist and distributed throughout the test area.

The controller maintains the required chamber temperature while fog collectors help verify fallout during testing. After the selected exposure period, specimens are inspected for red rust, white corrosion, blistering, peeling, pitting and coating damage.
